my guitar hero...

so my wife and i have established that we can't get a video game system... my son and I, mainly me, are way too a.d.h.d and we would never get anything done... it would be too distracting and i basically would never sleep...

we have played the wii on occasion and tonight the 360, guitar hero rocks, literally and figuratively... and i played for an hour and was completely hooked...

we with electronic addictions understand the perils of emmersing ourselves too deep into things / toys of the electronic persuasion... for example, if you could log the hours i spend on my blackberry and actually get paid for that time, i could retire yesterday...

I love how silly kids are...

so carter decided to put my boots on his arms and flap his arms like a bird...

It reminded me of a line from a movie, I'll withhold the title as it wasn't a "nice" movie... Two grown men were watching children play with bubbles and the father said "look how much they love bubbles, I would kill to love anything the way they love bubbles"...

It was a sobering line about how we as adults lose our innocence and joy of just having fun, even with a pair of boots for wings...

the dps experience

So I have been taking my tests to get my cdl to drive the cougar bus for our boys at cca, and because of that I'm getting to spend so quality time at the dps, for those non-texans substitute dmv here. The shortest wait I've had has been one hour, and that was just to retake some written tests. And now I'm sitting in the parking lot staring at a butt load of cars absolutely dreading going in there. First of all is the smell, a putrid mix of hospital and nursing home, I keep looking around for some octagenarians on beds wearing diapers. Second, yesterday I counted 5 different languages being spoken. I love Spanish and I'm absolutely intrigued by language, so this was like total brain overload as I tried to listen and figure out which language was being spoken and who was speaking it. This practice just got me a ton of weird stares and I think I learned how to cuss in korean. So here I go, off to another beautiful multi-cultural experience... Wish me luck, or providence, which ever...

life with add...

So I'm here at an education conference and I attended a great seminar by Jody Capehart on add/adhd. Most information and seminars on add/adhd focus on how to get kids with this neurological disorder to be less add/adhd and stay out of the way of progress by "normal" students. This one was a breath of fresh air. I suffer from add, or attention deficit disorder and I my 8 year old has adhd, or attention deficit hyperactive disorder. Many of the battles we face as a family are challenging and very stressful. Some days are good, some are bad, and some are very, very ugly. Back to Jody Capehart, she presented the information in such a balanced way, not giving us a free pass, but also not throwing all the blame us as well. She has co-written two great books on the subject and I recommend her as an invaluable resource. Hasta luego

new school year

Well another school year has begun, landrey is a third grader and he loves his teacher, Mrs. Shirley. Aby started pre-k and she got a fantastic teacher, Mrs. Dowen. Aby is really adjusting well to the structure and new atmosphere of school life. She has lots of new friends and I'll get to be her Spanish teacher starting Monday, that should be a lot fun.
Well have a great one,

Tyler

where to start...

so it has been a long, long time since i wrote one these...

in local sports news... tony romo went from who? to hero to slippery hands, the mavs showed everybody the regular season is crucially important to the post-season, and the rangers have been exploring the basement of the mlb...

family wise... i am teaching spanish and coaching basketball (yes you may take a minute and chuckle) at
  • Covenant Christian Academy
  • . it is a blast teaching, and very surprising, because i never saw myself outside of church ministry. but i guess God has a better, bigger view of my life than i do. Sarah is working at Scottish Rite in Dallas, and doing great. They do lots of surgeries to help kids multiple sclrosis, and other crazy diseases. Landrey is going to be in 3rd grade at CCA, and he is reading everything under the sun. I think he is going to beat me through the Bible. Aby just turned 4 and will start pre-k in August. Carter D is growing up more everyday, soon to be talking. Speaking of Carter, nap time is over so adios...
